Attack on America

	Dear family and dear friends:

Today was a day of hope. I feel there will be a long period of ups and downs
for all of us but I know we will get back one day to some form of normality.
Life is strong and so is our wish to give our children a world of peace and
tolerance.

I red in a newspaper that the families of the persons committing suicide attacks
get some financial support from the terrorism sponsors. It made me thinks that
as evil as they are, these persons care for their family. It is weird but this
little ounce of humanity in their cruelty is a source of hope. It means they
are not as invulnerable as one might think.

We spent this weekend in Southampton with our friends. The weather was great.
Our friends managed to find a place where the sell very good fishes. They bought
some fresh salmon and tuna and we made our own sushis. The price of the gas
is reasonable, around $1.7 a gallon. It was $2 last spring.

We managed to joke on a few occasions. I said I was ok to board a flight naked
and bound to my seat if this could enhance security.

We took the children to the playground twice and had some fun with them. They
seem ok. Victoire speaks freely about the attack. Olympe is quieter than before.
All of us sleep more than before.

Going back from Southampton to Manhattan was not as hard as I anticipated.
The traffic was light on the Long Island Expressway. There were some cars with
US flags and tags along the road like "United we stay" or "People
of New York are great". I felt relieved to see no racist or over nationalist
tags. We saw few planes landing and taking off to/from JFG and La Guardia airports.
The towers are gone and I could not tell the girls "the first who see the
twin towers will be the winner!" as before. There are many buildings left
to play that game though! We saw white smoke; some stuff must be burning still
but it will stop one day.

I opted for the tunnel rather than the triborough bridge in order to enter
Manhattan. The police was there, checking some cars. We felt reassured.

We did our shopping for the week. It is amazing streets look almost like on
any normal day. I went out with the girls to get the "Canard Enchaine"
like I usually do on Sundays. There was no recent French newspapers.

I will try to get back to work tomorrow. I am not scared but my stomach is
stressed sometimes. Life must go on and I am now prepared for the worst. I now
feel what it is like to be vigilant and focus on any suspect behavior/item around
me. I better understand the people who suffer from terrorism.

The people of New York are indeed great. They say some people do not like the
people of America. It makes no sense to me. People of America are made of all
people of the world. Attacking America is like attacking the world. Who does
not want to see it?

Tuesday is our wedding anniversary. Cecile and I stand close. We do not talk
a lot but try to support each other the best way we can.

Writing helps me a lot. Thank you for your support. I understand the situation
is not easy as well wherever you are. We will get thru difficult times but there
are reasons to remain optimistic.

With love

Alexandre
